He was the first Indian individual medal winner in Olympics. He earned bronze medal in the wrestling in Helsinki Olympics in 1952.

Wrestler Sushil Kumar recommended for Padma Bhushan

Wrestler KD Singh Yadav had a dream of introducing a wrestling academy along with a sports complex in Maharastra.

Sushil Kumar became only the second Indian wrestler after KD Singh to win an Olympic medal in wrestling.

And in a bid to fulfil his dream Ranjit Yadav, son of KD Singh Yadav, donated a few acres of land to Maharastra state government seven years ago. But till date the government has not taken a least percentage of initiative to initiate the beginning of sport complex and wrestling academy.

Ranjit Yadav, talking on the issue recently said, “I do not know why this delay has been made. I have waited for last seven years. Now I am planning in a different way.”

It has been learnt that Ranjit Yadav is now insisting the Maharastra state government to get the land back which he donated seven years back. He has reportedly sent a letter already to the state sports ministry, asking it to return his land.

According to his friends, Ranjit has already been in talks with a few corporate houses so that they take interest in the project. But if any corporate house takes up the project, then there will be only a wrestling academy. Indian sports lovers had to wait 44 years for another individual medal when Leander Paes earned another bronze in 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Yadav had died in 1984.

His son now seems extremely frustrated with the dilly-dallying attitude being shown by the state government.

On the contrary, the sports officers had made comments on the issue saying, “Actually the key reason behind the delay was that we were not properly informed about the administrative details of the project.” But at the same time, Maharastra state sports ministry is trying to make Ranjit Yadav optimistic by saying that the project will be fulfilled. A sports officer in the state sports ministry has recently said, “We are initiating with the project. And we are hopeful that both sports complex and the wrestling academy will take place within next couple of years.”
